Dave Hayden imageDave Hayden - The Triton Project.

I've known Kenny for a number of years as we worked together on a World Record breaking human powered catamaran project called Triton. Throughout the project Kenny was a valued member of the team. Kenny took sole responsibility for designing the rudder system on the vehicle as well as solving a number of logistic and project management challenges. He has an excellent engineering skillset, combining 'on the tools' practical knowledge, the ability to design from standards & theory with the drive and leadership skills to actually deliver tangible solutions on time.

Whilst I have known and worked with Kenny for a few years now, I have only recently started to report directly to him. Kenny regularly took the time to effectively manage my workload, even going above and beyond by consulting me directly and asking how I prefer to work.

Not only this, Kenny has repeatedly gone out of his way to mentor and guide me on a wide range of skills and projects. He has proven knowledgeable on multiple facets of design engineering, including CAD software, mechanical design, legislation compliance and much more. Furthermore, Kenny has been supportive and encouraging in passing on these skills to myself and the rest of the team.

I had the opportunity to work with Kenny Holmes on a couple of critical projects involving the design of complex pharmaceutical pressure vessels.

That involved development and building pilot plant and then scale up to commercial scale pharmaceutical plant. Kenny's expertise was evident from the start. He not only brought a deep understanding of the technical requirements but also managed the design process with exceptional skill.

Kenny's approach was meticulous and strategic, ensuring compliance with industry standards while meeting our specific needs. His ability to anticipate and address potential challenges was impressive, saving us time and resources. Throughout the project, Kenny maintained effective communication, keeping all stakeholders informed and involved. The success of this project owes much to Kenny's contributions. His blend of technical knowledge and process management skills is outstanding. I highly recommend Kenny Holmes for any advanced design challenges in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dave Pass - Engineering Director - Musk Process Services

Dave Pass ImageKenny has successfully and competently worked in the capacity of a designer within a larger design department as well as taking the lead on complex multi-disciplined Mechanical Design Projects.  Tasks have ranged from small, straightforward structural elements for supporting pipework, through modular skid-based equipment to taking the design lead on a multi-million pound new build process plant.

Kenny has repeatedly demonstrated and delivered designs that satisfy the required safety criteria for a piece of equipment.  He has lead Design Risk Assessment (DRA), Hazard Identification Workshops (HAZID) and has participated & contributed to Hazard & operability studies (HAZOP).

Kenny has used design verification tools and implemented them into the design process to capture justification & compliance against regulatory requirements.  This has been presented as part of a design justification pack as well as metadata contained within the 3D CAD model.  This is invaluable when carrying out Design & Engineering activities that fall outside the main body of a design code.  Kenny demonstrated this expertly in the design of a high-pressure chemical reactor with a bespoke bottom body flange arrangement & dual duty heating & cooling jacket.  Through the application of stress analysis, thermal loading and fatigue loading, the design risk was suitably mitigated to enable third party and Notified Body approval.
Kenny has an in-depth knowledge of the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations as well as a sound working knowledge of the Pressure Equipment Directive.  I have witnessed him competently work within PED, PD5500 and EN13445 to deliver robust, safe and functional systems that conform to UK regulation.  More importantly, Kenny has identified and mitigated aspects of these design codes & directives that are not routine or obvious, for example, the compilation of Particular Material Appraisals (PMA’s) for Notified Body approval.

Kenny has a sound understanding of parametric software and is a practitioner in the use of Autodesk Inventor.  He routinely produces high-quality 2D manufacturing, drawings to BS8888 for General assembly as well as weldment & machining drawings.  He is a practitioner in the use of Plant 3D software and its integration into Inventor and Revit.  He produces 2D and 3D pipework drawings including line diagrams and Isometrics for quotation support as well as installation.

Kenny was my go-to expert for site survey & installation assessment.  His ability to accurately and swiftly generate an existing site or facility within the digital workspace lead to the significant reduction in design risk at an early stage of the design process, as well as enabling the design team to better manage the clients expectations through the development of concept renderings within the intended installation area.
